Graciosa Island Biosphere Reserve hosted the Islands for Sustainability event
Between the 29th and the 31 of May, the Graciosa Island Biosphere Reserve hosted the Islands for Sustainability event, an initiative of the COST Action SHIFT programme, included in the call 21166, Social Sciences and Humanities for Transformation and Climate Resilience.
In the auditorium of the Graciosa Basic and Secondary School, participants, not only nationals but also from Hungary, Greece and Turkey, delivered their contributions, divided into 5 panels on the themes of biocultural heritage, ecosystem services and climate resilience.
The Flores and Fajãs de São Jorge Biosphere Reserves shared contributions on biocultural landscapes and traditional knowledge with the themes “Flores Island Biosphere Reserve – Heaven on Earth? A Pristine Spot?” and “Vineyards and Cultural Landscapes in São Jorge”. The Graciosa Biosphere Reserve presented the theme “Adaptation of Artificial Nests in the Praia Islet Nature Reserve to Climate Change”.
